Occupy Space Movement is a activism-based multimedia art collective focused on togetherness of artists and good people from all around the Sacramento Area. On the weekend of July 6th, the movement run by driven and passionate artists and directors hosted “A Look at Sac Fashion.” The event, which started at 7pm, held multiple brands, artworks, and even a artist-made video game inside the Brazilian Center on N street with both an inside and outside area to mingle, eat, and look at art.
The movement focuses on putting on multiple events where artists can safely share their art and come together. However, finding musical guests, artists who would like to be involved, a venue, and food for the event is not an easy task.
“I think coordinators and people who bring members of the community together for a higher purpose really have their own unique process. When organizing you have to consider a variety of factors, but what is important is knowing the purpose and the true intention of the event,” said Samantha S., one of Occupy Space Movement’s coordinators.
Inside the center were booths and brands, mostly self owned, greeting those browsing and sharing their stories and experiences as an artist. All mediums of art from clothes on racks to art on the walls were displayed around the room.
Village X Garment Supply, specializing in cartooned tee’s, said “This is my first art event. I’ve done concerts and parties but I’ve never done an event like this. I think it’s cool! I had actually met a girl at one of those events and she dm’d me to come sell my stuff here!”
Another self inspired brand, Saultwatercrystals owned by Carmen Sault, who designs and sells her own handmade wire wrapped pendants made from selected minerals and gemstones, said “ This event in particular was really fun and everyone I met was so supportive! All the other vendors were really friendly as well, it didn’t feel like anyone was competing with another only just here to support one another.”
As the sky faded from pink to dark blue, the outdoor fire pits were lit and everyone gathered outside for the live performances starting at 9:30.
“The most rewarding feeling after putting endless amounts of energy into an event is knowing that those who joined the event gained something meaningful, whether creating new friendships, or feeling truly comfortable in their own body” said Samantha S.
